AMARO JOACHIM
Through prayer and study, the young Joachim discovered in his native Calabria a wealth of medicinal herbs, from which he crafted a liqueur with uniquely beneficial balsamic properties!

Born from a slow and entirely natural process, this bitter liqueur is crafted through cold infusion of a carefully curated selection of aromatic, digestive, and balsamic herbs native to Calabria. Time and human mastery guide the alcohol in gently drawing out the most precious essential oils from these noble botanicals, shaping a liqueur of remarkable depth and structure. The result is a refined harmony between alcoholic strength and aromatic intensity, unfolding into a long, elegant, and memorable finish.
Amaro Joachim, inspired by the liqueur once created by Abbot Joachim of Fiore, is the expression of a profound dialogue between nature, history, and craftsmanship. It is produced through differentiated cold infusions of thirty native botanicals, each selected to preserve its purest aromatic soul. After years of research and refinement, Liquorificio Sila has given life to an amaro that, from the very first sip, invites the senses on a journey through Joachim’s lands—from the gentle hills of Celico to the majestic pine forests of the Sila plateau.
This is a spirit that captures the essence of a land both wild and sincere—at times austere and vibrant, yet deeply welcoming and emotionally resonant. A land shaped by green hills, ancient forests, crystal-clear waters, and some of the purest air in Europe, where Mother Nature has bestowed her most generous gifts. All of this lives on in a liqueur that speaks of place, memory, and timeless authenticity.

Joachim Licorice is not simply a liqueur; it is a sensory journey of taste and aroma that carries you, on an imaginative flight, from east to west and from north to south across Calabria. Celebrating the authentic flavors of Calabrian tradition, Joachim Liquorice offers a refined sensory experience in search of some of the region’s most precious treasures.
A single sip is enough to soar from the intoxicating scents of the Pollino mountains toward the shimmering blue of the Ionian Sea. Here, from the fertile lands of the Sibari plain, the precious Black Gold of Calabria is drawn forth. The journey then continues southward, gliding over the mountains of the Sila plateau, breathing in some of the purest air in Europe—the Blue Gold of Calabria—and capturing the evocative aroma of its majestic pine forests. Finally, the voyage reaches the southernmost tip of the region, where the seductive fragrance of the Green Gold of Calabria is gathered and preserved.
All the knowledge, craftsmanship, and quality of Joachim are embodied in these exclusive liquorice liqueurs. Through the traditional process of slow cold maceration in pure alcohol, Liquorificio Sila creates a trilogy of intensely natural flavors with an enveloping aromatic profile. Perfect as an after-dinner liqueur, they pair beautifully with the spiced desserts of Calabrian tradition, chocolate-covered figs, and dried fruits.
Serving temperature: 0°C.

GIOACCHINO DA FIORE
The Abbot, the Prophet.

His father owned a vineyard not far from his home, and at the edge of the vineyard there stood a dense forest, stretching as far as the Cannavino River. There lay a long, broad stone, so naturally shaped that it could serve both as a kneeling place and as a bed for rest. In this solitary spot, the young Joachim would often withdraw to raise his prayers to God, usually accompanied by tears.
The frequent contact with his body—so pure and chaste—softened the hardness of the stone, and from it sprang a flower which, like dittany, possessed the virtue of healing wounds and various illnesses. News of this soon spread throughout the village. It happened, however, that a woman from the surrounding area, having much livestock that was ill, imagined that the flower held the same power over animals as it did over men. To spare herself the effort of bringing her animals there, she uprooted the plant, leaves and flowers, and carried it away with her.
The neighborhood was deeply distressed by the loss of this wondrous flower. Moved by their sorrow, the young Joachim returned to that place in prayer and, not from the flower itself but from the herbs growing there, he produced a liqueur that brought about the same effects. This liqueur continued to flow until the very end of the life of the Holy Abbot.

The Liber Figurarum
Our label explicitly recalls the figure of the Trinitarian Circles depicted in the eleventh plate of the Liber Figurarum. In Joachim’s vision, the first circle—green like nature—represents the Age of the Father, the Creator of the Earth; the second circle—cerulean like the sky—represents the Age of the Son, the One Who Descended from Heaven; the third circle—red like fire—represents the Age of the Holy Spirit, who manifested Himself to the disciples in the form of a Burning Flame.
On our label, the Trinitarian Circles have been rendered through the use of a holographic foil. By simply turning the bottle toward the rays of the sun, the colors chosen by Joachim in his graphic representation of the Divine Trinity are revealed once again.
This image is perhaps the one that best encapsulates the Abbot’s theological thought: the division of human history into three Ages, represented by three intersecting colored circles. At the center of the figure lies the Mystical Mandorla—the single area shared by all three circles—symbolizing the Trinitarian unity of God, ever present throughout history. At the very center of our label falls the letter C, representing Christ.
Referring once again to the figure of the Trinitarian Circles, Dante Alighieri—clearly inspired by Joachim’s vision—describes the mystery of the Trinity in Canto XXXIII of the Paradiso, writing: “Within the deep and luminous subsistence of the exalted Light, there appeared to me three circles of three colors and one dimension; and one seemed reflected by the other, as rainbow by rainbow, and the third seemed fire.”
WHO WE ARE

Liquorificio Sila was founded in Celico (CS), the birthplace of Abbot Joachim, through the ingenuity and passion of cousins Andrea and Fabio. Enthusiasts of botanicals and producers of small batches of artisanal liqueurs, they set out to blend tradition, research, and innovation in order to create a modern laboratory where every stage of production is carried out with artisanal care and technical rigor.
The collaboration with the Camaldolese monks, custodians of an ancient herbal wisdom, played a decisive role in the creation of a unique product line—one that expresses a perfect balance between spirituality, nature, and technique. The deep bond with the territory inspired the dedication of this first line of liqueurs to the charismatic figure of Celico’s most illustrious son—JOACHIM—described by the Supreme Poet Dante Alighieri as the “Calabrian Abbot Joachim, endowed with a prophetic spirit.”
Further products are already in development and will soon see the light of day, continuing a tradition that unites a profound love for the land of Calabria with the art of contemporary liqueur-making.
